Sustainability

Our Ethos

Inchoak’s management team takes responsibility for Environmental and sustainability issues very seriously. The management team’s knowledge has been gained in over 20 years of life experience running a business rather than with a formal qualification, in accordance with relevant requirements in respect of environmental and sustainability issues.
Inchoak applies its policy by means of a management system dedicated to regular review of its practices and their environmental impact. This policy is implemented by all company employees who are regularly referred to and updated on its principles, and encouraged to commit to its ideology.
Wherever possible the company itself utilises environmentally friendly and renewable energy sources and encourages the use thereof by its customers and suppliers. From conception, to manufacture, through to customer use and ultimately disposal, Inchoak gives thought to the environmental impacts of its products and merchandises. Through sensible forethought and planning the company endeavours to conserve resources and energy specifically in relation to issues such as transportation, recycling and waste disposal and reduced emissions from industrial processes.

About our Policy and Environmental Management System

While we continue to work towards achieving ISO14001 accreditation, we have taken the initiative to formulate a programme of internal environmental practices to ensure minimal impact on the environment. Specifically:

  • Wherever possible we use energy-saving lighting solutions (this is utilised and displayed in our own showrooms).
  • We remove all packaging from site and arrange for it to be recycled appropriately.
  • We have in place procedures for the recycling of:
    • Paper and cardboard waste
    • Wood waste
    • Print cartridges
    • Metal waste
  • All other waste materials are disposed of appropriately for recycling wherever possible, by use of specific recycling facilities available on site at our warehouse premises.
  • Efficient scheduling of deliveries to decrease/minimize pollution. Careful planning is given to the use of all company vehicles for delivery etc in an effort to minimize fuel pollution.
  • The company is considering “green” fuel for all future fleet vehicles.
  • 99% of our packaging is made from re-cycled materials
  • Potential supply projects can be quoted to accommodate any level of requirements for use or procurement of re-cycled products.

Managing the Supply Chain to integrate sustainability

Wherever practically possible Inchoak will seek out and promote eco-friendly options – using sustainable and controlled sources.

Our quality procedures in relation to delivery of services/supply of goods take into account environmental matters. For example, special emphasis on recycling, the safe use of materials, conservation of energy resources etc are areas which we consider relevant to the protection of the environment in relation to the services we provide. Specifically:

  • We procure our products from manufacturers and suppliers who hold ISO14001 accreditation and who endeavour to source sustainable products.
  • Our manufacturers and suppliers are FSC and PEFC compliant. FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) & PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) are non-profit organisations concerned with ensuring the responsible and sustainable management of forests. Both organisations have international recognition and work to ensure that the world’s forests are managed in a responsible manner.
  • Our risk management solutions and health and safety policy ensure safe and efficient use of materials
  • Wherever practicable Inchoak uses local resources, contractors and sub-contractors.
  • Wherever possible Inchoak promotes the use of environmentally friendly materials and suppliers are encouraged to put forward sustainable products.

Contrary to common belief a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to office refurbishment and furniture procurement is not always a more costly route and can in fact add value:

  • Improving your company’s bottom line figure, through a reduction in your energy bills
  • Enhancing your corporate image
  • Enrich your internal environment
  • Improve staff morale and minimise staff turnover

With the guidelines within the UK and EU becoming more stringent it is prudent to start thinking “green” sooner rather than later in order to help reduce possible costs in the future.
